37% of recent first-time home buyers regret the size of the mortgage they took on, according to a new Mortgage Professionals Canada report — and two-thirds are anxious about renewing at higher rates as pandemic-era loans come due.
More than 53% of recent buyers say they're already struggling with payments — or would struggle if their mortgage bill rose just 15%. "Recent buyers and newcomers are often among the most exposed," said MPC chair Maxime Stencer.
