Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem warned that the persistent trade war with the U.S. and conflict in the Middle East could "unravel the recent rebound" in Canada's economy. Non-energy exports rose at an annualized rate of 14.5% in Q2 2026 — the highest since early 2025 — but Macklem cautioned that new tariffs could slash fourth-quarter growth in half.
