Australia's Assistant Technology Minister Andrew Charlton announced a plan to force AI giants like Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic to share their massive data centre capacity with local startups. Speaking at the ANU Crawford School, Charlton outlined a vision for Australia to capture 80 per cent of the AI supply chain, from data centres to model development, warning the nation must not settle for the "bottom 20 per cent" as it historically did with raw minerals.
