The Alcohol Study They Tried to Bury: What One Drink Really Costs
A government study on alcohol risks was sidelined amid industry pressure. The findings show health costs start at just one drink a day.

The Announcement
A federally commissioned study on alcohol’s health effects was released Tuesday in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. The research concluded that risks of cancer, heart disease, and premature death rise with even one drink per day. No level of alcohol showed a protective effect on mortality. The work had been commissioned under the Biden administration to help shape new dietary guidelines but was not incorporated after the Trump administration took office.
