A NASA-supported study is making one uncomfortable point feel even more obvious: wildfires aren’t just burning forests—they’re worsening ground-level ozone pollution across large parts of the U.S., even far from the flames. The research highlights how Canadian wildfire smoke transported carbon monoxide thousands of miles downwind and fed into ozone-forming chemistry, turning “out there somewhere” into “right here, air quality now.”
